Spanish Cedar is an extremely durable wood that finds its origins in Central and South America. Its heartwood is pale pinkish-brown when freshly cut, becoming red or dark reddish-brown. Its sapwood is pale pinkish-beige.
It is the premier wood used in cigar humidor interiors. Among its many applications, spanish cedar is used in boat building, furniture, and cabinets.
It machines well, and it is easy to work with when using hand and power tools. Staining the wood can be difficult as there is sometimes the presence of gum. However, a strong finish can be obtained with suitable filling. Spanish Cedar also holds nails and screws well. In addition, it glues satisfactorily.
